Presentation Description:

If you're like me, at some point you've had a great user insight or design concept that a client or stakeholder didn't buy into. This talk is about how to avoid that heartbreak. It’s about generating and spreading ideas that stay with your audiences.

As UX pros, whether designing or analyzing, ideas are at our core. We spend years learning how to shape ideas into assets - reporting user insights, designing prototypes, and scoping interactions. But we spend woefully little time learning to communicate this stuff to its full potential. I’ve learned the hard way that often ideas aren’t enough. The kind of work that gets us to user findings, designs and product specs isn’t the same as what gets people to pay attention, remember it, believe it and care.

At this talk, you’ll learn simple communication methods to get people stuck on your ideas.

John Douglass
John Douglass
Head of Social UX Research, Google

John leads the team responsible for evaluating and informing the user experience for Google’s social products - an area with over half a billion monthly active users. For the last two years, he’s also led research for Google+ Hangouts, launching rapidly adopted apps across iOS, Android and Web.

Before making the jump to San Francisco, he led the global user experience practice of designers and content strategists at APCO Worldwide, a DC communications consultancy. Previously as a UX Designer and Information Architect he built sites and apps for clients such as Coca-Cola, eBay, Ford's Theatre, and MasterCard.

Returning for this UXPA event will join his list of DC highlights, including a swim in the Potomac for the DC Triathlon, "playing" at the 9.30 Club for the National Air Guitar Championships and eating an unholy amount of half-smokes at Ben’s.
