------ Schedule ------

6:00 - 6:30 - Networking, food and drinks

6:30 - 7:30 Our Littlest Users: Research and Design with 2-4 Year Olds (Deb Levin Gelman)

When creating experiences for 2-4 year olds, we as designers have lots of opportunity to be creative, but we need to reconsider some basic visual and interaction design principles. In this presentation, Deb Gelman will discuss the challenges that come with designing for 2-4 year-old users. She'll share tips and techniques for:
  • research and testing
  • navigation
  • color and sound
  • design patterns.

7:30 - 8:30 - Designing a Persuasive Video Game (John Ferrara)

The unique ability of video games to command playersʼ attention and express meaning procedurally may make them, among user experience channels, an ideal way to persuade. This presentation will provide an overview of the specific strategies that our team employed in designing Fitter Critters, a prizewinning game designed to persuade children to adopt healthier eating habits. The gameʼs design drew upon our background in user experience design and the unfolding theoretical frameworks for the development of games that serve broader social objectives. Attendees will acquire methods for building persuasive games, and volunteers will be invited to play Fitter Critters live to demonstrate the process by which the game effects meaningful change in people.

8:30 - 9:00   We'll be raffling off 5 copies of John's new book followed by additional time for networking.
